You are locating your car in the parking lot one night with your back pack and couple of books held on hand. You were fumbling your keys and heaving your bags into your trunk when you were startled by a guy asking if you need help. He continues to insist even if you already told him you don’t need help. With your intuition, you know you are in danger. What now? So what are you going to do?

If you have something in your purse that can protect you, you will feel more at ease. In the world today, buying a stun gun it is a necessity to protect yourself.

A Stun gun is a device built to momentarily immobilize or incapacitate an attacker by generating a high-voltage yet low amperage electrical charge to its body passing through a heavy clothing or skin. The charge is strong enough to incapacitate an attacker but it is not enough to cause serious damage to the human body.

The brain communicates messages to the different parts of the body through electrical signals that release neurotransmitters. The stun gun generates electricity that disrupts the normal system which causes a confusion of signals brought to the other body parts. With this communication system break down, the person will have a hard time interpreting the signal to move the body, causing him to become confused and unbalanced. The body’s electrical signals can be imitated by the current given out by the stun gun. The energy of the person will be depleted because the stun gun causes the muscles to exert much effort in a very short time.

Self-defense is one purpose of stun guns and it is made to incapacitate a bad person. Thus, this device should be used conservatively. Half a second of stunning can give out a painful jolt that will scare him. If you zap him for about a single or couple of seconds, muscle spasms and confusion is likely to occur. If you hold down the trigger for more than three seconds, he will become uncoordinated and disoriented, and may even experience a loss of muscle control. If you want to be protected, buying a stun gun is a good solution, it's kind of like insurance. You hope you never need it, but if you do, you'll be glad you had it.

Due to its momentary effect to the human body, without known fatal consequence, stun guns are used to generate confession from prisoners and suspects of crimes in some country. Some states and countries prohibit stun guns though. Some countries that do not allow stun guns include Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Hong Kong, India, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, and United Kingdom. To prevent breach of laws, it will be a good idea to check the policy of your country first.

Self defense and personal security is a serious matter. Buying a stun gun and taking it with you all the time is indeed a wise idea in our unsafe world today. The stun gun may not be infallible, but it can really save lives in emergency situations.
